Hello, I’m Sophie!

About Sophie Nussle

I was born in Geneva and raised in an Anglo-Swiss family where French and English flowed effortlessly through daily life. My childhood was shaped by movement, with weekends and long holidays spent across France, from the dramatic peaks of Chamonix to the lavender fields of Provence, the elegant boulevards of Paris, the wild Atlantic coast of Western France and the shimmering shores of the Côte d’Azur. France was never just a destination; it was woven into the rhythm of my upbringing, a place of family gatherings, laughter-filled meals and a deep sense of belonging.

Drawn to both justice and international perspectives, I later qualified as a lawyer in the United Kingdom. That path soon led me far beyond courtrooms. I joined the International Committee of the Red Cross as a delegate, specialising in the protection of civilians in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. Those years were intense, humbling and profoundly formative. Working on the ground, listening to communities and advocating for those whose voices were rarely heard taught me resilience, diplomacy and the importance of clarity in even the most complex situations.

Over time, my work expanded into advocacy and communications roles for charities, international organisations and the private sector. Whether shaping strategy, refining messaging or guiding sensitive negotiations, I developed a deep appreciation for the power of words and the importance of navigating cultural nuance. I spent years working across continents, adapting quickly to new environments, yet France remained my anchor, the place I returned to recharge, reconnect with family and friends, and breathe in mountain air after long assignments abroad.

My love for the mountains ultimately called me home. In 2019, I made the decision to settle permanently in Chamonix, transforming what had once been a cherished holiday destination into my full-time home. Living here year-round has been both grounding and inspiring, a life framed by snow-capped peaks, crisp mornings and a vibrant international community.

Yet settling in France revealed something unexpected. Even as a native French speaker, I discovered that France’s administrative landscape can feel like a labyrinth. Its bureaucracy, business culture, healthcare and education systems, not to mention its deeply rooted traditions, can be surprisingly opaque, even to those who have grown up here. (French friends reassure me that confusion is practically a national pastime.) Accustomed to navigating complex environments abroad, I realised I needed a different kind of compass, a cultural and bureaucratic one, to decode the system effectively.

Having always loved helping others, I began informally guiding expat friends and soon their friends through the intricacies of French life. EU citizens, British, Swiss, Australians, Americans: people from all walks of life seeking clarity, reassurance and practical support. What started as friendly advice evolved naturally into dedicated support with business administration, strategic communications and day-to-day navigation of French systems. Today, I combine my international experience, legal training and cross-cultural insight to help others not just settle in France, but truly thrive here with confidence, clarity and peace of mind.
